Overview The Global Filter Mechanical Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and will be based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Mechanical Engineer position is critical to our business both in terms of long-term success and day-to-day operations. This individual is responsible for supporting Global Filter’s goals & objectives by utilizing lean manufacturing concepts, transitioning new products from design to manufacturing, and maximizing overall effectiveness in accordance with organizational needs. The Mechanical Engineer will identify & solve problems by implementing effective solutions and ensuring safety is a top priority. The position requires frequent interaction with all members of the organization, and occasional interaction with vendors and customers.

The ideal candidate will be a self‑motivated quick learner with a strong bias for action. The candidate will possess a customer‑centric mindset, exceptional attitude, strong attention to detail, sound communication skills, willingness to develop an in‑depth understanding of products and accounts, and the motivation necessary to provide clear and effective solutions. The Mechanical Engineer will possess an entrepreneurial mindset, and a team‑player focus to quickly and effectively collaborate with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve problems.

Responsibilities

Solve and document problems related to equipment, tooling, process, and quality

Develop and perform testing protocols of raw materials, products, and new processes

Prepare and revise manufacturing & process documentation

Develop production work standards and routers

Collaborate Engineering & Operations teams to develop new equipment, processes, and procedures

Participate in various projects to ensure quality standards are met in a safe and timely manner

Support 5S and other lean manufacturing projects and initiatives

Evaluate new materials, processes, and procedures to enhance and improve existing product lines

Provide technical support for raw materials and manufacturing methods associated with existing products

Collaborate with Sales, Product Managers, and Operations teams to better understand customer needs and product applications

Establish and maintain detailed documentation to track project development and design processes

Own incoming inspection process to include component level validation and Quality dispositions with suppliers

Generate working prototypes for beta testing, process validation, and customer demonstration

Discuss quote specifications with Sales Team, Product Managers, or other stakeholders; provide follow‑up as needed

Partner effectively with Sales & Operations team members to ensure alignment on customer expectations being met with existing and future orders

Possess a high level of emotional intelligence, ensuring an exceptional customer experience

Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office; specifically, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Working knowledge of teleconference tools

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or in a related field is required

Three (3) years of Engineering or relevant experience in a technical or manufacturing environment is preferred

Computer proficiency required - competent with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ERP software experience strongly preferred - must be able to input and retrieve data

Prior experience using Solidworks, Draftsight, AutoCAD, Ansys is preferred

Prior experience utilizing Diffusion Testers, Integrated Testing Machines, Turbidimetric Efficiency Testers, Differential Pressure Testers, and Collapse Testers is preferred

Strong understanding of engineering concepts and mechanical systems is required

Customer‑centric mindset with excellent interpersonal skills

Must possess excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

Outstanding organizational skills are required, including the ability to prioritize & manage multiple priorities

Willingness to work alongside all levels of the organization is required

Travel

This role may require up to 5% travel (overnight expected) to visit customers, end users, collaborate with team members, and participate in industry events.
