FAR INSPECTIONS
Join FAR Inspections as a Mortgage Field Services Inspector and perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. As an independent contractor you can earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income with a flexible schedule. No prior inspection experience is required, but you must manage time effectively and meet deadlines. The position is based in Reno, NV, and is supported by a company that has been in business for over nine years.
What is an Occupancy Verification? Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties. The inspections verify property occupancy, report on general condition using a mobile application, and occasionally require interior photos if the property is vacant.
Responsibilities
Conduct most inspections within 5‑6 minutes of arrival.
Complete the inspection within four days of assignment.
Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
Take nine or more photos of the property with brief comments.
Complete a short form in a mobile app.
Drive extended periods during the day, making multiple stops within your assigned territory.
Requirements
Computer with internet connection.
Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus as you pay your own gas).
Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
Printer.
Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.
Pay and Hours This is a 1099 position. Each inspection is paid at a flat rate that varies by county and volume. You can earn an equivalent of $30–$40 per hour and, depending on county, complete between 20 and 500 inspections per month working 2‑30 hours per week. Lower volume counties carry higher rates, while high volume counties pay less per inspection. There is no minimum volume, and work is consistent month to month.
You’ll earn more as you establish yourself, increase availability, or expand your territory. No mileage reimbursement is provided beyond the flat fee per inspection.
