Real Estate Loan Consultant
We’re seeking a motivated and member‑focused professional to join our team as a Real Estate Loan Officer. In this role, you'll be responsible for originating real estate loans while guiding members seamlessly through the borrowing process. You'll build strong referral relationships within the local real estate community—including builders, developers, and realtors—to drive loan opportunities and elevate the member experience. The ideal candidate provides exceptional service, shares information about HCU products and services, supports mortgage personnel when needed, and actively promotes HCU's brand and culture in every interaction.

Work Details Monday‑Friday 9 am‑5 pm, some after‑hour events. Office located at 900 E 23rd Ave in Hutchinson KS.
Responsibilities
Guide members through the borrowing process: interview, take applications, process preliminary documentation, discuss loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and documentation.
Analyze and evaluate loan requests and prepare written submission for consideration.
Maintain communication with the member throughout the loan process to answer questions, handle requests, and resolve problems.
Perform follow‑up work as necessary to achieve conditional approval within established time frames.
Work with the real estate community to build trusted referral relationships for the purpose of originating real estate loans.
Inform members of HCU loan policies and services.
Counsel members regarding money management and financial matters, and if a loan is denied, explain reasons and alternatives.
Maintain and project HCU’s professional reputation.
Provide superior service to our members and proactively support and advance HCU’s brand and culture.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent.
One to two years of related mortgage/real estate lending experience required.
Understanding of the foundation of determining credit worthiness.
Familiarity with title reports, insurance, and appraisals.
Real‑estate background helpful.
Strong interviewing skills.
Excellent communication and public relations abilities.
Strong analytical and financial skills.
Sedentary work; stationary most of the time.
Other Requirements
Valid driver's license.
Require NMLS registration under the SAFE Act of 2008 (includes fingerprinting and background screening). Fees paid by Heartland Credit Union.
Pass criminal background check, drug screen, credit check, and past employment and education verification; complete required screenings.
