PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Police Officer performs assigned duties to protect students and employees. Responsibilities include campus patrol, traffic direction, investigation of offenses, accident reporting, court appearances, arrests, and public assistance. Requires a valid TCOLE license and a firearm while on duty. Essential Job Functions

Patrol campus grounds and buildings; check doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secured Investigate all offenses and incidents Makes court appearances Writes thorough and accurate reports on criminal complaints, accidents, or other significant incidents Provides assistance to all students, faculty, and visitors; responds to first aid and medical assistance calls Applies advanced skills related to analytical, technical, or operational processes Applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within area of expertise Works within defined standard operating procedures and adheres to quality guidelines Works under moderate supervision Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Microsoft Office and police department software programs Remote access systems may be required Proficiency with firearms Excellent communication skills Ability to remain calm under pressure, respond to emergency situations, and resolve conflict Physical Abilities

Extended periods of intense concentration reviewing crime scenes, investigations, and reports Ability to drive a patrol vehicle Subject to physical harm such as weapons and attacks Vision: near, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception; detects movement and activity in low light Ability to stand for prolonged periods, perform strenuous exertion including bending, stooping, running, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. Carry moderately heavy items on a needed basis Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction Speak loudly, quickly, and accurately to convey instructions Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and reports Move on foot for long distances between work sites Working Schedule And Conditions

Equipment: PC, telephone, calculator, laptop; may include motor vehicle and standard police gear Interface with internal and external contacts as needed Work primarily outdoors; may be exposed to extreme weather and potentially dangerous situations; requires weekend duty and shift work Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED Basic TCOLE peace officer license, maintained Valid Texas driver’s license with approved driving record Physical agility assessment: row 500 meters on a rowing machine within 2 min 17 sec; 6 consecutive trigger pulls within 10 sec Sidearm qualification course completion Field training program completion after hire Preferred Qualifications

60 earned hours from an accredited college or university, or Intermediate Peace Officer certification from TCOLE At least 4 years of U.S. military service with honorable discharge Salary
