Recreation Leader
The City of Monterey Park's Recreation and Community Service Department invites energetic, creative, and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Recreation Leader. Recreation Leaders may be asked to provide recreation leadership, supervision, and assistance in various recreation programs, including day camp, youth and adult sports, and special events. Part-Time Regular: Full availability and willing to work all programs year-round for a minimum of 25 hours a week, with a maximum of 35 hours a week. Part-Time Seasonal: Limited availability, only able to work seasonal winter, spring, and summer programs for a minimum of 10 hours a week, and a maximum of 25 hours a week. Both Regular and Seasonal positions are part-time hourly at-will positions. The Parks & Recreation Department plays a crucial role in creating a healthy community by offering diverse and innovative programs and establishing broad partnerships. Knowledge of theories, rules and regulations of sports, games, arts and crafts; safety practices, proper lifting techniques; Ability to follow oral and written instruction; work alone, or with children, teens and adults; enforce safety rules and regulations; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and education that has provided the required knowledge and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance are qualifying. Example: Senior status at an accredited high school. Related paid or volunteer experience such as a youth sports coach or official, or youth leader is highly desirable. Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Community CPR Certification is required for continuous employment. Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is desirable. Physical Requirements: Positions in this classification may perform tasks requiring continuous physical effort including setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classes and special events, climbing, bending, lifting and pulling equipment and materials weighing 50-75 lbs. Applicant must be at least 16 years of age. Applicant must be available to work on-call, assigned shifts, nights, weekends and holidays. This position may be required to work in difficult circumstances and in inclement weather.
