Part-Time Maintenance Worker - Natural Resources-Hyde Farm
Position located in the Parks department, within the Natural Resources Unit. Primarily reports to Hyde Farm, 721 Hyde Road, Marietta, GA 30068, and works at various locations throughout the unit.
Essential Functions
Mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weeds around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; removes snow and ice, etc.
Performs maintenance and construction tasks for various facilities: resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields and courts; paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairs and assembles fences and playground equipment; builds sets and staging, shelves and other items; performs light plumbing, electrical, masonry and carpentry repairs, etc.
Performs general custodial duties at various parks and facilities: cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas; vacuums carpets; hoses decks; scrubs and waxes floors; dusts; washes windows; empties trash; sets up and tears down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events.
Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: gathers supplies and equipment; transports supplies to and from work site; initiates orders; maintains documentation.
Operates or uses a County vehicle, and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies such as lawn mower, weed eater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheelbarrow, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, back hoes, and other power/motorized equipment.
Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition: inspects equipment, checks fluid levels, replaces fluids, greases equipment, washes/cleans equipment, cleans shop and work areas; monitors equipment operations, reports faulty equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in building maintenance, parks, landscaping or related field.
Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Physical Abilities Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling moderately heavy objects (20-50 lbs) or occasionally heavier (up to 100 lbs).
Sensory Requirements Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors May require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, confined spaces, machinery, or electric currents.
