Job Summary This position will report to the VP of Operations and represents an opportunity to join an awesome team on the ground floor, learn a lot, and have a ton of fun as GRC grows! The
OSP Inspector
is a hands‑on, field‑based role critical to ensuring the quality, compliance, and safe execution of GRC's fiber optic utility construction projects, with a primary focus on
Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) designs .
Key Responsibilities Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance (100% Field‑Based)
Day-to-Day Management:
Manage day-to-day construction activities of a fiber optic utility network for various types of FTTx, primarily focusing on FTTH designs.
Compliance Verification:
Work directly with the Market Manager to ensure safe and quality construction practices are being met by both internal and subcontract crews.
Field Presence:
Be in the field working directly alongside the crews approximately 100% of the day, often requiring extended periods of standing and walking on hilly, winding, and uneven terrain.
Depth and Offset Verification:
Perform thorough field verification of all construction progress as work is completed. This is crucial and entails using a utility locator to identify depth and offsets of all newly placed conduit, vaults, hand-holes, etc.
Design Adherence:
Be responsible for ensuring all underground (UG) and aerial design specifications are followed accurately in the field.
Stakeholder Relations:
Work constructively and professionally with Environmental Monitors, DOT/OSHA representatives, Municipalities, and other key stakeholders.
Documentation and Compliance
Quality Control (QC) Metrics:
Learn and apply all quality metrics to ongoing and completed work to ensure that the finished construction product meets customer, municipality, and environmental specifications and requirements.
Data Collection:
Collect pictures, bore logs, as-built data, and other required documentation from crews to support customer Quality Control requirements.
Night Work:
Participate in Night work (shifts) on a rotation basis as required by project schedules or municipal permitting.
Accountability:
Be responsible for ensuring the success and accuracy of all work performed by internal and subcontractor crews.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Experience (Telecom):
Must have at least 3 years' experience working FTTH fiber jobs (Fiber-to-the-Home).
Experience (Underground):
Must have at least 3 years’ experience working with and around directional drilling crews in the utility construction industry.
Leadership:
Must have proven supervisory experience in a construction or field-related capacity.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of utility construction practices, terminology, and industry standards.
Blueprint Proficiency:
Able to read, interpret, and adjust various construction drawings/prints (work prints).
Locating Expertise:
Experience with locating systems used to identify underground utility depths and offsets.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time on various terrains.
Computer Skills:
Strong computer and data management skills are required for daily reporting and documentation.
Preferred Skills
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
Process and documentation orientation, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Experience with Google Suite and other field data entry software.
