Located in Shelton, CT, Interstate Waste Services is a provider of solid waste and recycling services serving the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets. The CDL-A Drivers will operate tractor trailers transporting containers of municipal and commercial waste between local Transfer Stations and rail yards.
Responsibilities
The driver is responsible for safely operating the truck in compliance with IWS’s safety standards as well as OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
This is a full-time, year-round position. This union role offers competitive pay and full benefits, including medical insurance, life insurance, retirement benefits, and paid time off.
All routes are local; you will be home daily.
Ensure that the container and its content are always secure, including periodically checking tarps and ties (may require climbing onto containers and/or reaching overhead).
Perform pre- and post-route inspections of the assigned truck and document any safety issues on standard reports.
Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, as well as containers or equipment in need of repair, and report any issues to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
All IWS employees are expected to be responsible and accountable for safety for themselves, colleagues, trucks and equipment; drivers must immediately notify Route Supervisor or Dispatch of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times, address complaints about schedules and quality of service, make notes of any complaints, and respond in a courteous and respectful manner.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
AllDrivers must have a valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement, and a clean driving record.
At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL-A within the last 7 years. Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuge company is highly preferred.
Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and applicable traffic regulations.
Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
Must be able to read and understand a map.
Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
Must be willing and able to work the required hours as allowed under DOT regulations and may include weekend, night, and/or holiday work.
