Salary and Benefits: Lateral Certified Police Officer
Starting: $93,767 (step 3) - $106,352 (step 5), DOQ After 3 Years: $125,580

Tuition reimbursement program for those obtaining a career-applicable associate's, bachelor's, or graduate degree from an accredited educational institution. Reimbursement of up to two (2) classes per semester; the percentage reimbursed is based on grades.
12-hour shift schedule, every other weekend off

POSITION DETAILS
Are you a certified police officer eager to make a real difference in your community? Currently certified as a police officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) or be currently certified as a police officer in another state and capable of receiving certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
If the candidate for lateral appointment is not currently employed by a qualified law enforcement agency, a candidate is eligible for lateral appointment if the candidate was employed within the last 12 months (or 24 months with Board approval at the request of the Chief of Police), on a full-time basis, as a police officer with a regularly constituted municipal or county sheriff's department or state police department for a period of not less than two (2) years, successfully completed his/her probation period, the separation from the previous employer was voluntary and on good terms, and the candidate continuously maintained status as a certified police officer.
Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of filing a formal application.
Minimum of two years of full-time sworn law enforcement experience.
A commitment to community engagement and problem-solving.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid driver's license.
Must meet all other requirements set forth by the City of Prospect Heights and the Prospect Heights Police Department.
Vision Correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
Taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a Police Officer.
Possesses substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a City Prospect Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the City.
Currently in good standing in the Police Department in which the person serves.
Lateral Police Officer Candidates who have been determined by the Commission to meet the aforementioned requirements will not be required to attend an orientation or take a written examination. For such candidates, the examination process may include a background investigation, oral interview, polygraph test, psychological evaluation, and medical examination.
