The Powder Lead is the liaison for nearly everything powder related at Mott. They work with suppliers, internal customers, and nearly all other functions of the business. From Process Engineering to R&D, the Powder Lead coordinates with other departments to ensure Mott’s customers ultimately get the right powder at the right specifications in the products ordered. The Powder Lead is also responsible for the overall powder team daily operations, including training and assigning tasks to personnel, ensuring timely inspections, receipt, and issuance of powders, and collaborating with quality and supply chain for any non-conformance. Essential Functions
Complete powder inspection/approval: conduct powder analysis including particle size distribution (PSD), apparent density (AD), flowability, and green strength testing. Coordinate lab requests and support Powder Engineering in their evaluation of sample results for powder lots. Partner on quality reviews to determine disposition for non-conforming material. Analyze manufacturing data daily to determine issues and implement corrective actions. Ensure production schedule is met while meeting quality expectations. Manage continuous improvement projects assigned by the Department Manager to achieve year over year productivity. Ensure timely and accurate inventory transactions and maintain >98% Cycle Count accuracy. Monitor and partner with Department Manager to ensure excellence in departmental performance and development. Partner with Department manager to maintain a culture of responsibility and ownership. Secondary Functions
Operate equipment necessary for powder processing. Provide technical support for operations and engineering personnel. When required by customer, compile process statistical analyses in collaboration with Process Engineering. Issue metal powders for production jobs. Perform other duties as required. Responsibilities
Lead the Powder Department team, ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction. Test and characterize material to project specifications and requirements. Provide technical support for operations personnel. Train powder employees on area processes and QMS procedures. Evaluation of powder. Maintain safety, 5S & QMS procedures in powder department. Education / Experience Required
High School Diploma or equivalent Associate’s degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent, required 5-7 years’ experience in manufacturing environment Effective communication and coordination skills Ability to collaborate across multiple functions from floor personnel to senior management Role model of Mott Core Values Prioritizes the needs of others ahead of their own Ability to inspire others to rise to challenges Experience in a manufacturing or production environment Leadership experience helpful Experience with powder metallurgy and material science helpful Experience with quality assurance and process troubleshooting Familiarity with ERP systems and documentation practices Other Skills Required
