Compensation: $17.87/hr - $18.46/hr

Position Summary Under supervision, assist with ensuring that the day-to-day needs of the residents are met in accordance with Exceptional Children’s Foundation (ECF) policy and regulatory requirements related to licensed facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Attend to the personal needs of residents in a respectful and caring manner, including personal hygiene, toileting, bathing, dressing, and incontinence management. Ensure residents are appropriately groomed following Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals and recommended prompting levels.

Assist and support residents with daily chores, including changing sheets and performing laundry.

Supervise residents during meal preparation, ensuring adherence to menus and diet. Encourage family‑style dining by eating with residents during regular mealtimes.

Be familiar with residents’ IPP objectives and ensure the plan is followed, participating with prompts/actions when required. Write progress reports on ISP objectives daily.

Administer medications to residents following the medication administration policy. Report discrepancies to the Registered Nurse (RN) and Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) immediately.

Report all pertinent information regarding client care to the RN and QIDP as appropriate. Document all pertinent information using the client data collection book and staff communication log.

Interact with residents when on the premises or during community outings (medical appointments or social outings).

Follow staff assignment schedule, ensuring completion of all tasks for assigned clients.

Follow posted cleaning schedule to ensure all common areas of the home are clean and well‑maintained.

Perform household tasks as assigned, including completing food service tasks, laundry, etc.

Transport residents in a 12‑15 passenger van to social activities and medical appointments.

Attend all in‑service trainings as required by licensing and the Residential Manager.

Other Duties

Communicate in a respectful and professional manner with residents, family members, visitors, etc. Direct care questions should be directed to the Residential Manager or QIDP.

Maintain confidentiality and objectivity at all times.

Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program and ensure safe use and operation of tools and equipment.

Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.

Regular, reliable attendance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications:

N/A

Experience:

Two years’ direct service with special needs population or experience working in a Long‑Term Care facility. May substitute CNA or EMT certification in lieu of experience.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

Successfully pass a reading, writing, and English comprehension test.

Basic knowledge of residential home operations.

Ability to recognize and respond to Universal Safety signs.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to comprehend directions regarding work to be performed and safety guidelines.

Maintain a professional image while on duty by following ECF’s dress code.

Ability to follow directions.

Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.

Requirements

Staff must eat with clients during regular mealtimes and consume the same food as clients (except for medical reasons, allergies, etc.).

Staff may only eat at scheduled mealtimes and may not prepare snacks for personal consumption outside of mealtime.

When a field trip/outing falls at mealtime, staff will receive $7.00 for the cost of food; any additional cost must be paid by the staff.

When the field trip/outing falls outside of mealtime, staff may not use facility money to purchase snacks/drinks but may take a personal drink from the facility.

Employees who cannot be excused from duties on a fixed holiday will be granted another day off or paid straight‑time rate plus holiday pay.

Licensing regulations do not allow unauthorized persons on the premises; staff may not have visitors/guests, including overnight visitors.

On‑duty staff must stay on the premises and be available in the event a consumer requires assistance.

Personal phone calls should not be made during regular work hours; use call‑waiting feature if necessary and reimburse ECF for all toll calls.

Obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and NCI certifications.

Obtain and maintain medication administration certification.

Driving is an essential function. Proof of valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, state‑mandated car insurance, and insurable driving record are required. While driving for work, employee’s insurance is deemed primary and ECF’s coverage is secondary.

Pre‑employment physical, initially and annually thereafter, and negative TB test, initially and every three years thereafter.

Driving Disclaimer: Employees driving for company business must maintain a clean record and operate vehicles safely and responsibly. Violations may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of driving privileges, reassignment, or termination.

Work Environment ICF/DDH and ICF/DDN licensed group homes for adults with varying degrees of developmental and physical disabilities. Employee may encounter consumers who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner. Environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, varying indoor temperature, drafts, and exposure to varying weather conditions when driving to meetings, appointments, etc.

Physical Requirements

Capable of moving and transferring a minimum of 50 lbs.

Ability to assist with transferring a resident to and from a wheelchair (pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs. with assistance).

Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and repetitive motion required in performance of the job duties.

Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, operate a copy machine, fax machine, printer, computers, and/or other devices.

Safely operate a 12‑15‑passenger van to transport residents to various appointments, purchase groceries, etc.
