Minimum Qualifications
US citizen, or a citizen in the naturalization process with DCJS approval. Minimum 21 years old at conclusion of field training. High school diploma or GED. Must pass physical agility test and a background investigation (polygraph, psychological, medical, drug screening). Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license with ≤6 demerit points in past 12 months or a DUI conviction within past 4 years. Binocular vision of 20/25 corrected or better. Must not have felony, habitual misdemeanor, or sexual/misdemeanor domestic assault convictions. Must pass physical agility test and a comprehensive background check.
Physical salary: $60,147 per year during recruit training. Progressively increases to $62,751 upon attaining Police Officer status. Further step increments at fiscal year changes; Step 2 increases to $64,163 after field training completion.
Job Duties
Operate assigned patrol vehicle; patrol county traffic and criminal violations.
Respond to citizen calls, complaints, and information requests.
Conduct victim, witness, and suspect interviews; prepare detailed reports.
Make arrests, testify in court, and engage community groups.
Perform other police patrol operations as assigned.
Shift & Work Location Shifts are permanently assigned based on department need. Candidates must be able to work any shift, including overnight and weekend assignments.
Location: Chesterfield, VA.
