The primary goal of a Pet Stylist is to perform expert-level grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning. Ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of pets, while delivering high customer satisfaction, is essential. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Grooming Salon Leader, Solutions Manager, or Store General Manager. This role is ideal for experienced groomers seeking to grow their skills and productivity. Essential Job Functions:
The incumbent must perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodation: Perform grooming services such as bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, following pet owner instructions, breed standards, and company policies Operate and maintain grooming tools and equipment Prioritize pet safety, monitor for discomfort or health issues, and report concerns promptly Assess individual pet needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament Customer Interaction and Maintenance:
Interact professionally with pet parents, provide excellent customer service, and address inquiries or concerns Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at-home care products Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the grooming area and tools Follow grooming policies and standards to ensure safety and quality Support and supervise entry-level trainees if needed Education and Experience:
Successful completion of Petco’s Pet Stylist Apprentice program, or relevant grooming experience and training High school diploma or GED preferred but not required Ability to use grooming skills to solve routine to moderately complex problems with some guidance Results-oriented with attention to detail and passion for animals Proficiency in breed-specific cuts, styling, and grooming standards Strong communication skills and ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled Work Environment:
Most duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon, involving bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods. The environment may be noisy and wet, with exposure to heights and cleaning equipment. Significant time is spent in direct contact with pets and pet parents. Petco is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
