Under direct supervision of a Patrol Division Sergeant, performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities. Tasks are service and protection oriented, including collecting and dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, providing assistance, protecting and recovering property, preventing crime, investigating, and providing other public protection services. Duties include elements of personal danger, such as exposure to life-threatening circumstances, apprehending criminals, and transporting prisoners. Duties are performed in accordance with State Statutes and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. The incumbent must be able to act without close supervision and exercise independent judgment. MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Must be at least 21 years old Must possess a high school diploma or GED A minimum of thirty (30) college credit hours from an accredited college, or three years of military experience, is preferred Must have or be able to obtain Texas Basic Peace Officer certification Responsibilities include conducting routine preventive patrols, responding to calls for service, interviewing witnesses and suspects, providing public assistance, initial crime scene investigations, enforcing laws, making arrests, testifying in court, maintaining reports, attending training, assisting fire personnel, and performing related duties. Must maintain physical condition and vehicle/equipment maintenance standards. Tasks may involve physical effort and exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
