Position Description
$5,000 signing bonus payable upon hire
$5,000 additional bonus upon successful completion of one (1) year of service
Maximum starting salary $87,523 based on years of service and current salary
$10,000 signing bonus awarded to successful candidates
Prior MPCTC‑certified officers may transfer up to five (5) years of prior service credit into the County Police plan, provided they were separated in good standing within the last three (3) years
This is a full‑service local law enforcement position. Duties include patrol, traffic, investigations, administration, and support services. Work may require shift work, outdoor work, and exposure to dangerous conditions. The role involves protection of life and property and enforcement of laws and ordinances.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation
Successful completion of recruit or entry‑level training and probationary period
Valid non‑commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent from another state
United States citizenship
Safety‑sensitive position subject to controlled dangerous substance and alcohol testing.
Supplemental Qualifications
Completion of MPCTC recruit training and required field training objectives
Current MPCTC certification as a police officer, or certification within the last three (3) years and separation in good standing from a prior law‑enforcement agency
Full‑service law‑enforcement agency experience in the State of Maryland
Experience includes enforcing state and local criminal and traffic laws, making arrests, responding to stressful and hostile situations, and investigating traffic incidents
Selection Process Applications are evaluated based on education, experience, polygraph examination, panel interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, and comprehensive medical examination. Disqualifying reasons include poor work history, poor driving record, felony convictions, falsification of application or other documents, and any other disqualifying causes determined by the Police Department or Office of Personnel.

Monday, March 9 – Friday, March 13, 2026: Oral panel interview
