Position: MSJ/Meteorologist (CBS Sacramento & Good Day) We are looking for an MSJ/Meteorologist to drive weather storytelling. The ideal candidate must have superior forecasting and severe weather skills, understand how to forecast major events including wildfires, floods, and blizzards in the different microclimates of our market, and produce easy‑to‑understand and informational visuals, maps, and graphics to communicate the weather story conversationally in the communities of our market every day on air, streaming, online, and on social media platforms. A dynamic personality is a must.
Overview & Responsibilities Other duties include producing weather content, working with a team of meteorologists including the Chief Meteorologist, implementing station strategy, writing and preparing forecasts, producing graphics to tell the weather story across multiple platforms, maintaining a strong social media presence, and periodically writing and reporting weather‑related content for newscasts. We want good communicators who are team‑focused.
Successful Candidate Should Have
On‑air weather casting experience within a TV Station
A degree in meteorology or related science
Strong writing skills for broadcast and digital platforms
Strong social media skills
Ability to use augmented reality in weather segments is a bonus
Ability to provide continuous live severe weather coverage across all programs
Write daily weather blog and post weather content on social media platforms
Passionate about being a brand ambassador for CBS Sacramento and the communities we serve
Basic Qualifications
B.S. Degree or equivalent experience in Meteorology or Earth Sciences preferred
Proficient in weather graphics production
Knowledge of weather patterns and microclimates across Northern California and the Western U.S.
Ability to live field report and write packages
Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record in order to operate a company vehicle
At least three years’ experience on‑air in weather casting and weather producing preferred
Ability to shoot and edit video
WSI weather system knowledge and ability to employ all functions on multiple platforms preferred
Additional Information Hiring Salary Range: $80,000.00 - 85,000.00. Salary applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay depends on location, market demands, experience, training, and education. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance, and PTO, or as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
