Responsibilities
- Risk Evaluation: Selection, retention, and pricing of new and existing business in accordance with the company’s underwriting philosophy and guidelines.
- Broker Relationships: Proactively develop and foster positive, professional relationships with agency partners to promote products and services.
- Premium Growth: Work closely with Field Sales Managers on broker business plans, generate submissions, and achieve target quote and bind hit ratios.
- Underwriting Profit: Collaborate with Field Sales Managers to meet pricing and commission targets for profitability.
Key Functions
- Select new business and evaluate renewal accounts per underwriting philosophy and authority parameters.
- Maintain professional, courteous attitude with agents; respond quickly and ethically to requests.
- Educate agents on risk selection philosophy and pricing guidelines.
- Monitor performance metrics, including premium and unit count goals, mix of business, and decline ratios.
- Seek sales opportunities, solicit desirable business, and follow up on quoted business.
- Travel to agencies for field underwriting and quoting as needed.
- Review claims activity, loss control surveys, and inspection reports for existing policies.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve policy issues.
- Delegate policy changes to assistants as appropriate.
- Mentor and train staff members.
- Demonstrate teamwork and strong judgment.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in California workers’ compensation underwriting.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, decision‑oriented environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Independent and collaborative team player.
Benefits
- Base Salary Range: $80,000 – 135,000 annually.
