Summary

The Director of Sales is responsible for developing long‑term sales strategies and annual sales plans. This role establishes relationships with customers, collaborates with Costco buying management in each region, and provides valuable insights about consumer profiles and trends. The Director coordinates with the CDS business plan, works directly with the Costco GMM to establish regional event volume strategies, identifies discrepancies, and influences changes to get the volume back on track. The role also acts as a creative force in developing new programs and services for Costco and its vendors and oversees their successful implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Vice President, Sales to develop a 3‑5 year sales strategy and an annual sales plan.
  • Provide quarterly updates to senior leadership and revise the plan for each region.
  • Establish annual and monthly sales objectives in coordination with the CDS business plan for regional sales offices.
  • Conduct and present CDS’ marketing services to existing and prospective clients.
  • Partner with the CPG Relationship Lead to build relationships with vendors, brokers, and buyers by providing product sampling insights and advice through the development of individual event programs.
  • Develop sales metrics to assess regional sales teams’ performance.
  • Manage personnel, including selection, work allocation, training, development, and problem resolution.
  • Motivate, coach, inspire, and mentor employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Be a creative force to develop new programs and services for Costco and its vendors, sell these services, and ensure successful implementation.
  • Ensure strong sales/operations relationships and effective communication, working with the Director of Field Operations to resolve issues and drive programs.
  • Train, develop, coach and counsel direct reports in all aspects of the in‑house demonstration program.
  • Provide excellent customer service to Costco in the form of upcoming demo volume projections, results, and analysis of demos performed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct Reports

  • Hire, retain, train, coach, guide, direct, and develop direct reports using company‑wide processes, tools and resources.

Indirect Reports

  • May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction, and mentoring to indirect reports.

Travel and Driving Requirements

  • Travel and driving are essential duties of this role.
  • Travel up to 20% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred).
  • 24+ months of progressive experience in customer service and/or sales or marketing fields.
  • 5 years of experience managing people in a related field.
  • Strong business acumen and working knowledge of business models.
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets or quotas.
  • Understanding of current and emerging global operating services.
  • Flexible in assessing and improvising in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate technology solutions in business terms.
  • Ability to build teams staffed with the appropriate talent and develop self‑motivated high achievers.
  • Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills; able to present to large groups.
  • Ability to manage with tact and diplomacy.
  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product.
  • Ability to build rapport and credibility with broad base of stakeholders.
  • Able to maintain confidential information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access; ability to use enterprise‑wide information systems.

Environmental & Physical Requirements

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is primarily in an office environment, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), hear the telephone, enter data on a computer, and lift up to 10 kg.
