Overview
We are a fast-growing technology company modernizing a traditionally physical industry. As we scale from a ~40-person team to 100+ employees, we are looking for a hands‑on Senior Manager, People to help us grow while preserving a high‑performance, values‑driven culture.
This role will be the sole internal owner of HR and recruiting , partnering closely with leadership while working alongside a PEO. You will be the architect of the systems, operations, culture, and processes that allow the organization to scale sustainably.
We expect this role to be roughly a 50/50 split between recruiting and HR , flexing as business needs evolve.
This is a critical leadership role requiring a rare blend of enterprise‑level HR rigor and startup sensibility —someone who can introduce structure, compliance, and best practices without slowing momentum or eroding culture.
Key Responsibilities
Policy & People Infrastructure
- Design, refine, and communicate HR policies aligned with labor laws, compliance requirements, and industry best practices
- Develop and implement a comprehensive compensation philosophy balancing market competitiveness and internal equity
- Strengthen and evolve performance management frameworks to drive accountability while remaining culturally aligned
- Advocate for, gain buy‑in, and implement competitive benefits programs for a growing workforce
Performance & Change Management
- Create a culture of accountability with clear performance standards and consistent feedback
- Develop and facilitate training programs to build strong people managers
- Coach leaders through difficult conversations, performance improvement plans, and organizational changes
- Navigate the balance between startup autonomy and increasing operational maturity
- Proactively address cultural friction points tied to scale, process change, or evolving expectations
- Build trust across the organization as the leader for people, talent, and culture
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Investigate and resolve employee relations issues with fairness, discretion, and sound judgment
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, workforce classifications, and ethical standards
- Manage accommodation requests, leaves of absence, workplace investigations, and disciplinary processes
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and succession planning
- Lead full‑cycle recruiting for priority roles, including hands‑on sourcing and candidate coordination when needed
- Continuously improve onboarding experiences
- Serve as ATS administrator (e.g., Lever, Ashby), including configuring interview plans, troubleshooting access issues, and optimizing workflows
HR Operations
- Own HRIS administration, payroll coordination, and benefits enrollment in partnership with the PEO
- Generate workforce analytics and insights to support leadership decision‑making
- Manage the full employee lifecycle from offer through offboarding
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3–4 years in a generalist and people‑management role
- Experience working with a PEO (e.g., Justworks or similar)
- Experience supporting a mixed hourly and salaried workforce
- Proven ability to operate effectively in both startup environments and larger organizations with established HR infrastructure
- Direct experience developing HR policies across compensation, compliance, and people operations
- Demonstrated success building accountability and feedback‑driven cultures
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or a related field
