The AVP, Business Continuity Officer is responsible for developing, maintaining, testing, and improving the organization’s business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities. This mid-level role focuses on operational execution, stakeholder coordination, and program maturity rather than strategy ownership. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Business Continuity Planning
Facilitate businesses to update and maintain Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) for departments, processes, and critical services. Facilitate Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and risk assessments with business owners. Facilitate businesses to identify critical processes, recovery time objectives (RTOs), recovery point objectives (RPOs), and dependencies. Maintain continuity documentation in accordance with organizational standards. Participate in the BCM strategic roadmap development and annual program plan at an executive level. Plan, execute, and document BC/DR exercises (tabletop, functional, and scenario-based). Coordinate with IT, facilities, HR, security, and third-party vendors during testing. Track issues, corrective actions, and improvement plans resulting from exercises. Incident & Crisis Support
Support incident response and crisis management activities during disruptions. Provide guidance to business units on plan activation and recovery procedures. Participate in post-incident reviews and lessons-learned activities. Program Maintenance & Improvement
Participate in the development and maintenance of enterprise BCM policies, standards, and procedures; ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and external audits. Support audits, assessments, and regulatory examinations related to business continuity. Improve BC program maturity, metrics, and reporting. Maintain inventories of critical services, applications, vendors, and resources. Develop and maintain executive-facing dashboards, KRIs, and metrics that demonstrateprogram maturity and risk reduction. Deliver business continuity training and awareness sessions for staff and plan owners. Coach business units on continuity best practices and plan ownership. Vendor & Third-Party Resilience
Perform third-party risk and vendor continuity assessments. Review vendor BCP documentation and recovery capabilities. QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree (required) in Business administration, information systems, risk management or related field. Commensurate experience considered. Certifications CBCP or ABCP (strongly valued). Experience
3 - 5 years’ experience required in Business Continuity Management. Skills/Ability
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings and effectively lead discussions. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management and staff. High level of professionalism, commitment, and integrity. Commitment to growing and enhancing skills and knowledge. Occasional travel to and from other work locations may be required. Must have a high degree of business acumen, good project management and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with business unit leaders, auditors, regulators, and third-party vendor representatives. Proven ability to work autonomously and in an efficient manner with minimal supervision. Strong team player with ability to influence opinions without having direct authority. Specific application skills include strong proficiency in Word and PowerPoint. OTHER DETAILS
