Job Description
The Phlebotomist III – Floater represents the face of the organization to patients as part of their routine healthcare or diagnostic needs.
This role is responsible for collecting quality blood samples and preparing specimens for laboratory testing while following established practices and procedures.
The Phlebotomist III – Floater interacts directly with patients, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence by explaining procedures and performing blood draws in a skillful, safe, and accurate manner.
The role demonstrates leadership behaviors while focusing on process excellence, confidentiality, and accuracy of patient information.
Assignments may include a doctor’s office, patient service center, or multiple locations based on business needs.
Requirement / Must Have
Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime based on staffing needs.
Commitment to policies and procedures related to professional conduct, safety, and confidentiality.
Ability to make decisions based on established procedures and exercise good judgment.
Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license, if applicable.
Ability to travel and work flexible hours across multiple locations with minimal notice.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
Strong customer focus with clear, open, and professional communication skills.
Experience
Three to five years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
Minimum of two years of experience in a patient service center environment preferred.
Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred.
Keyboarding and data entry experience.
Responsibilities
Perform daily activities accurately and on time under the direction of a supervisor.
Maintain a safe and professional work environment.
Perform forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established procedures.
Verify patient identification and specimen labeling in the patient’s presence.
Maintain required records and documentation.
Demonstrate organizational commitment and promote a positive image with patients, clients, employees, and the public.
Qualification and Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
