Responsibilities Under general supervision and medical direction, perform respiratory care related procedures. Use considerable judgment in accordance with the physician's treatment plan and within the scope of departmental policies and procedures. Scope of practice includes patient/family assessment and management, resource management, care facilitation, and discharge planning as required. Assess residents' condition, administer prescribed therapy and aerosolized medications, observe and record resident progress and response to therapy modalities including adverse reactions. Provide in‑service training to residents, family members, and facility staff. Manage life support systems for residents in the skilled nursing facility, perform airway care and maintenance, manage artificial ventilator status as directed by an approved protocol, and maintain and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators.

Skills Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures of bag ventilation and closed chest massage. Initiate, monitor and document performance of various respiratory care modalities. Perform assessment of residents' cardiopulmonary status utilizing physical assessment and history taking skills, laboratory findings, radiological studies of the chest, pulmonary function testing and professional judgment to formulate a respiratory care plan upon the order of a physician. Check physician's orders for completeness, chart for pertinent information, observe and chart vital signs, notify supervisor of all new starts and discontinued residents, administer proper technical respiratory care procedures, dispense medication, adjust equipment, observe respiratory rate, chart and communicate pertinent information, inspect equipment, maintain supplies, assist in emergency CPR, initiate and document therapy modalities, recognize adverse reactions, document resident care services, transcribe verbal orders, set up and record oxygen and respiratory supplies, instruct residents and family members, attend educational programs, participate in interdisciplinary rounds, perform quality assurance data collection, and maintain equipment troubleshooting tasks.

Qualifications

A Respiratory Therapist must have a high level of knowledge of respiratory therapy and practice required through completion of a NBRC‑approved and accredited program and one year of clinical practice experience under medical direction.

Must have a current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification and current State Licensure for a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Posted Salary Range: USD $35.34 – $38.83 /Hr.
