Job Summary The Technician, Level 3, HVAC Mechanic is responsible for delivering and installing HVAC telecommunications equipment at customer sites, including emergencies and scheduled events. The Technician will provide professional, respectful service while performing work and solving on‑site challenges. This position reports to the Regional Service Manager, Critical Power Operations and has no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Deliver and install telecommunications HVAC equipment.
Ensure all work is performed according to safety regulations and building codes.
Review mechanical and technical manuals and project specifications to understand project requirements.
Develop detailed work plans and timelines.
Estimate material needs and procure necessary equipment.
Conduct pre‑ and post‑inspections to verify quality and compliance.
Conduct regular quality checks throughout the project.
Troubleshoot mechanical problems and identify solutions.
Maintain detailed project documentation including progress reports, work orders and inspection reports.
Coordinate problem resolution with Technical Support, Customer Service, Sales and other personnel to expedite repairs.
Track activity and progress by communicating job notes and updates with your team.
Prepare necessary reports for project management and clients.
Travel to other branches or sites, as required, to assist with product installation, removal or repairs.
Implement quality control measures to ensure project standards are met.
Proactively identify and address potential quality issues.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Key Performance Measurements
Scorecard reflecting performance in safety, efficiency, work order completion, customer satisfaction and issue resolution.
High degree of time management skill, resulting in greater than 90% time billable to customers.
Management observation regarding attitude, diligence, team contributions and willingness to learn new skills.
Other key performance indicators as assigned.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent, required.
5–7 years of HVAC mechanic experience; preferred commercial and/or industrial.
Experience operating heavy equipment and towing a trailer with a service truck.
Certification from a technical school focused on Journeyman HVAC/Mechanical, preferred.
Valid driver’s license, pass a background check and drug screen.
May be required to pass additional requirements under the Department of Transportation (DOT).
General knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Strong desire to deepen expertise in HVAC diagnostics, service and responsibilities.
Working knowledge of HVAC machines and tools, including design, use, repair and maintenance.
Familiarity with test equipment, e.g., Digital Variable Multimeter and refrigeration test equipment.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
Ability to work with diverse individuals across remote offices.
Clear oral and written communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain strong workplace relationships.
Meticulous eye for detail and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Requires heavy travel, some evening, weekend and overnight travel.
