Job Overview Specialist Dietitian

Freeman Hospital , part of Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking a dedicated dietitian to support our Oncology, Haematology, ENT Surgery, Teenager and Young Person’s units, and Radiotherapy Outpatients. The role contributes to multidisciplinary cancer MDTs, the Trust’s Palliative Care team, and drives research, audit and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive clinical nutrition and dietetic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and management for acute hospital services within oncology and haematology.

Offer specialist dietetic services in one or more sub‑speciality areas, including supplementary prescribing where appropriate.

Act as a nutrition support expert for patients, consultants and healthcare professionals.

Support MDT working, partaking in student training and supervision, contributing to research, audit and evidence‐based practice.

Maintain relationships with colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, delivering education and training at all levels.

Ensure patient care is aligned with clinical governance, quality standards and service improvement activities.

Deliver a high‑quality dietetic service within the specialist area of oncology, supporting both patients and staff.

Provide expertise to Nutrition Teams and work across multidisciplinary teams.

Participate in team and multi‑disciplinary evaluation, audit and research.

Contribute to the design, planning and implementation of research and audit projects, and assist with publishing results.

Qualifications & Education

Health and Care Professions Council Registered Dietitian.

Degree in Dietetics or Science/Nutrition plus Post‑graduate Diploma in Dietetics.

Evidence of specialist training through short courses or a validated qualification in one or more specialist areas (e.g. nutrition support, paediatrics, home enteral feeding, supplementary prescribing).

UK Valid Driving Licence.

Knowledge & Experience

Post‑registration employment in general clinical dietetics.

Evidence of participation in and contribution to audits.

Evidence in CPD utilisation and ongoing professional development.

Desirable Criteria

Basic training in counselling and/or motivational interviewing or cognitive behavioural therapy.

Basic Food Hygiene knowledge.

Experience in student training.

Experience working with a wider multidisciplinary team towards shared goals.

Proficient use of Electronic Patient Records.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Good interpersonal and supervisory skills.

Dedicated to research, audit, and evidence based practice.
