Job purpose As a Billing Specialist/Dental Authorization Coordinator, you will verify benefits, prepare clean claims, obtain prior authorizations, and manage self‑pay collections for the dental program. Your accurate and detail‑oriented work will support our mission of high‑quality, accessible care.

Duties and responsibilities

Perform billing and computer functions, including data entry, documentation review and encounter posting.

Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies electronically or by paper when necessary.

Work claims and claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services provided.

Verify patients' insurance coverage breakdowns and create ABNs as needed.

Review schedule/treatment plans for carrier authorization and obtain and log prior authorizations for procedures mandated by carriers.

Prepare, review and send patient statements and process all returned mail.

Process and send collections letters for outstanding balances.

Answer incoming patient billing phone calls and work to resolve patient issues.

Initiate collection calls and set up and maintain payment arrangements.

Follow collections process as outlined in FHCHC billing guideline.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required.

Minimum one year of dental authorizations and billing experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently or in a team environment and meet all established deadlines and metrics.

Proficiency in English; bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred.

Proficient computer skills and use of multi‑line telephones.

Understanding of dental terminology and Medicaid billing and authorization practices.

Must be able to commute to our New Haven and Branford, Connecticut offices.
