A police recruit is a temporary status for new employees while they complete the following:
Satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, also known as Basic Police Academy)
Satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification
Satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period

Candidate Engagement Plan
January 2-March 15 : Accepting applications
During our recruiting period, we will conduct our Application Material Review weekly. Qualified candidates will be invited to schedule a Physical Fitness Test and complete a Personal History Statement (PHS) to be brought with them to their test. Following testing, candidates will complete a Written Examination.
Candidates who pass their Physical Fitness Test and Written Examination will undergo an Internal Background Investigation.
March 30-April 3 : Candidates invited to move forward in the next step of our hiring process will be invited to complete a DISC Assessment and Participate in an Oral Panel Interview
April 13-17 : Oral Panel Interviews
April 20 : Candidates are notified of their status in our hiring process
April 20-May 22 : Candidates extended a contingent offer of employment will complete pre-employment requirements
June 8 : First Day as a City of Coppell Employee
July 6 : First Day of Academy

Police Recruit (PD1, 1)
Starting Hourly Rate: $39.27
Police Officer (PD2, 1-7)
Starting Hourly Rate Step 1: $40.85
The starting salary of certified officers is based on the previous experience level of the applicant as a full‑time police officer.
Requirements Candidates must be 21 years of age by T.C.O.L.E Graduation, or older. Valid State of Texas Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, with a good driving record.

Thirty (30) hours of college education from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.0, or higher, overall grade point average (GPA)

Prior patrol duty experience
TCOLE Advanced Certification
Fluency in a language other than English
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, or a related field of study
