Job Description

Basehor-Linwood is currently seeking a District Office Communications Coordinator to begin immediately.

Title:

Communications Coordinator

Reports to:

Superintendent of School

Position Summary:

Facilitates communication with district’s internal and external public to generate a climate of understanding of the district’s efforts to provide each student with the best possible education in a complex multi‑cultural society.

Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree preferred; English, Journalism, Communications background preferred

Excellent skills in grammar, writing, desktop publishing, communications and interpersonal skills

Excellent skill in using design programs such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop

Excellent skills in website organization and social media

Demonstrated knowledge of methods of effective communication

Desire and ability to work with students and staff

A willingness to cooperate with and follow the directions of the district Superintendent

The ability and willingness to communicate with parents

Ability to plan, organize, and ensure activities are completed

Proficient in data collection and reporting

Excellent written and oral skills

Proficient in Microsoft and Google applications

Essential Functions:

Provide means for clear communications with patrons, staff and students by coordinating preparation of district communication information, including brochures, external, internal and eNewsletters and other publications, developing news releases, creating Board Briefs, taking pictures of district events and keeping the Superintendent informed of all related activities.

Manages district’s digital presence including district website, district Facebook page, Instagram, Superintendent’s Messages, and community events.

Assists with the coordination of websites to promote continuity in publication and communication amongst buildings.

Attends all Education Foundation meetings

Acts as Secretary/Treasurer

Coordinates communication between internal and external publics (including social media)

Disburses all scholarships to recipient universities through Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (each June)

Assists with Scholarship Golf Classic coordination (June‑October), Major Saver discount card fundraiser (April), and Appreciation Breakfast.

Maintains open lines of communication with community organizations

Provides prompt responses to requests for information about the district, its policies and its programs

Prepares reports as requested for administrative team and Board of Education concerning plans and procedures to facilitate communication with internal and external public

Serves as liaison with potential students and their families, arranging and conducting tours of buildings, providing information about the district, and promoting the district to newcomers to assist them in decision making when it comes to school selection

Works with Superintendent, Board of Education and community committees in all phases of preparation for bond issues projects for the school district

Coordinates district surveys of staff, parents, and community

Upon direction from the Superintendent serves as an information liaison between the school district staff and the community

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent/Director of Teaching and Learning may designate

Prepare BOE agendas and update policies as approved

Plan and coordination of KTOY tours.

General Responsibilities:

Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal & telephone skills

Must demonstrate proficiency in gathering information to produce excellent school district publications

Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to use office, classroom, media equipment, and word processing

Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community.

Works effectively with community organizations.

Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned.

Supports the value of education.

Supports the mission and vision of USD #458.

Keeps abreast of new information, best practices, innovative ideas, and techniques.

Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools/Assistant Superintendent

Physical Requirements:

Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities. Requires occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.

Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.
