Grade 18 . For the 2025-26 Academic Year: Grade 18, Step 1 on the Classified salary schedule is

Job Summary:
Assist and support the Heavy Equipment/Diesel Technology instructors including preparing labs for demonstrations. Also overseeing the Heavy Equipment/Diesel Shop.
Required Qualifications:
Certificates and Licenses:
Requires valid Oregon driver's license. Must attain industrial lift truck certification within 30 days of employment. Welding certification and Commercial Driver's License is preferred. Education and Experience:
Position requires an AA/AS degree in Heavy Equipment/Diesel Technology or equivalent technical discipline, plus a minimum of two years of full-time related experience resulting in a recognized industry certification. Additional related education and experience may substitute for certifications. A minimum of one year of experience working with training employees in the Diesel Heavy equipment repair industry or in an institutional setting involving mentoring activities and/or set-up/support of learning experiences is desirable. Demonstrated competency in machine tool technology, welding, diesel engine repair, power train, fluid and pneumatic systems, or related technical disciplines are preferred. Knowledge and Skills:
Must have a working knowledge of instructional techniques and skills sufficient to instruct students on a formal and informal level. Considerable technical knowledge in the specific laboratory area of Heavy Equipment technology is necessary. Requires working knowledge of safety practices, and proper operation and techniques for use of equipment in the industry. Strong communication skills required in order to interact with and assist students, staff and the public. Abilities:
Ability to set up and maintain laboratory and equipment in a safe, clean and functional manner is required. Requires the ability to independently set up student projects which meet the instructional goals of faculty. Ability to function independently. Must be able to instruct students in the use of Heavy Equipment technology, equipment, supplies, and personal protective equipment. Must be able to communicate in both formal and informal settings with students, instructors, and the general public. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. Preferred Qualifications:
Welding certification and Commercial Driver's License is preferred. A minimum of one year of experience working with training employees in the Diesel Heavy equipment repair industry or in an institutional setting involving mentoring activities and/or set-up/support of learning experiences is desirable. Physical Skills and Abilities:
Physical ability to operate demanding equipment. Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate equipment. Requires sufficient hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in college heavy equipment labs and classrooms with potential exposure to weather, safety, or health hazards.
Essential Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist or tutor students in completing assigned class activities by observing the student perform the assigned tasks and asking questions of the student, making sure the student knows correct materials, tools, equipment and methods to complete the assignment. This includes developing materials and providing individualized instruction to students needing additional assistance. Represent the Diesel Department and LBCC to the public, businesses and prospective students; conducting tours, presenting information about the facility and programs, answering questions, and greeting walk-ins who have questions and/or concerns. Ensuring the department is organized and ready for tours. Maintain the Diesel Department in a clean and safe condition. Perform regular maintenance to equipment and machines, or coordinate the needed repairs with prior permission from the department chair. Maintain organization of parts storage and other supplies, including the parts, tools and equipment needed for the laboratory to include designing and building training aids. Placing orders, obtaining bids and/or purchasing necessary items utilizing a P-card. Purchases must first be approved by the department chair. P-card transactions must be processed and matched to appropriate documentation and funds. Prepare the lab so assignments may be demonstrated by setting up the correct materials, tools, and equipment needed for the assignments, including bringing in necessary equipment. May assist staff with preparation of instructional and testing materials, including administering and scoring instructor's exams as needed. May oversee work of one or more student employees. Procurement, inventory, and disposal of hazardous waste or materials. Continually update knowledge of current regulations (DEQ, OSHA) and accepted disposal methods. Update safety procedures and practices and maintain MSDS inventory. Establish, implement, and supervise safety procedures and practices in the lab. Observe student work for proper safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment. In absence of instructors due to illness or meetings, teach/oversee diesel labs and classes. Represent the department to the public for repair projects. Explain program policy on private projects. Oversee repair orders, complete preliminary cost estimates, track repair progress, maintain electronic records, provide customer service and process payments. With department chair approval, accept vehicle donations from organizations and the public as per LBCC donations policy. Meet with donors, accept the vehicles or may pick up or arrange for pick up. Ensure all DMV paperwork is current for College owned vehicles at the ATTC. Participate in the salvage and/or sale of department vehicles. Perform annual inventory of assets.
