Job Summary The HR Specialist is responsible for performing all HR functions, including onboarding, orientation, benefits administration, and training for a diverse, Disability-led organization based in Rochester's Center City that provides services to and advocates on behalf of people with disabilities across New York State. The HR Specialist requires excellent communication skills, and an in depth knowledge of HR laws, regulations, systems, policies, and procedures. Candidates who are bilingual (English-Spanish) or are fluent in ASL preferred.
Job Duties
Supporting the Director of Human Resources and Administration in meeting the organization's day-to-day HR needs while ensuring an inclusive, accessible, and equitable work environment.
Implementing talent acquisition strategies and managing the recruitment and selection process which includes forecasting hiring needs, posting job ads, prescreening candidates, setting up interviews, extending job offers to prospective candidates, negotiating with candidates about job-related expectations and compensation, and running background checks.
Onboarding new staff including enrollment in payroll and orientation.
Managing benefits administration, including enrollment or changes in health insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, and wellness programs.
Processing, managing and tracking employee leave benefits, including workers' compensation, short-term disability, paid family leave , and unpaid leave benefits including FMLA.
Supporting managers in conducting performance reviews or addressing disciplinary issues and assisting with employee appreciation, engagement, and recognition activities.
Ensuring that staff follow the system for making HR requests, and that such requests are correctly documented and effectively addressed in a timely and professional manner.
Completing employment verifications and managing unemployment insurance claims.
Conducting exit interviews to capture data that informs effective retention strategies.
Maintaining employee and departmental records to ensure all HR related documents are filed accurately and in a professional manner. Produce reports as needed.
Ensuring compliance with company directives, health and safety protocols, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations, ensuring that documentation of compliance is maintained as required.
Attending and participating in departmental , interdepartmental, and organizational meetings.
Supporting activities that ensure workplace safety.
Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $25.00 per hour
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
A minimum of three (03) years of proven work experience as an HR Specialist or HR Generalist.
