Interprets, organizes and executes the conceptual design of a project. Utilizes creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion.

Responsibilities Leadership

Conducts programming efforts such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, lighting and color coordination.

Develops innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function, reflecting client goals and within project budget.

Implements all phases of a design project, including contracts, budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, documentation, specifications and construction, including the selection and specification of furniture.

Maintains positive client relationships throughout the project, keeping the client apprised of progress on a regular basis and initiating and maintaining contracts with key project individuals for clarification, coordination and negotiation of critical issues.

Responsible for selection and specification of furniture, lighting, flooring, wall covering and artwork.

Estimates material requirements and costs.

Solicits bids and assists the Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation and arrangement of materials, finishes and furnishings required.

Ensures the project, or a phase of a project, stays on schedule.

Communicates with other disciplines, vendors and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides necessary support.

Leads the Construction Administration phase, responding to RFIs, COs, reviewing shop drawings and participating in field site reviews.

Manages the project using Deltek Vision, completing work plans, identifying project team members, budgeting, scheduling, fees and labor costs, and overseeing project change notices.

Implements and utilizes HOK Standards for all projects and processes.

Ensures project documentation and contracts comply with standards set forth by the Technical Board.

Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.

Fosters a green workplace through sustainable work practices.

Teamwork

Renders conceptual design ideas and prepares 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.

Prepares, corrects and updates documents during schematic design, design development and construction administration phases.

Coordinates color and material palettes.

Solicits bids and assists the Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation and arrangement of materials, finishes and furnishings required.

Produces written documentation related to the project—including agreements, meeting minutes, transmittals and memoranda—using HOK standard formats.

Reviews documents for adherence to building and ADA codes, oversees coordination and quality assurance, ensuring documents align with design intent.

Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub‑consultants and other disciplines to ensure project details are carried out, including technical issues and project information at all levels of contract administration.

Assists in design presentations and with keeping a phase of a project on schedule.

Provides support to all team members for specific field, style or phase of interior design expertise.

Maintains positive relationships with consultants, contractors and jurisdictional/approval agencies.

Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.

Client Interface

Represents the client in obtaining bids and awarding construction contracts, and may assist with negotiating fees and contracts.

Staff Development

May mentor and direct the work of less experienced staff.

May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.

Business Development

Explores and identifies new opportunities to add or enhance professional services with existing clients.

Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.

Assists in developing fee proposals for marketing proposals.

May participate in developing the annual business plan for the interiors discipline.

Education & Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design or a foreign equivalent.

Prior experience in interior projects is required.

Must be a professional Interior Designer and have passed the NCIDQ exam or be a registered Architect with a current license.

If a registered Architect, NCARB registration is preferred.

LEED credential is required within 12 months of employment.

Other

Travel will be required.

Overtime will be required.
