Under the general supervision of the Coordinated Specialty Care Program Manager, the Peer Support Specialist performs assigned peer support activities in the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network offices and community at large. Specifically, this worker provides information to clients of Coordinated Specialty Care First Episode Psychosis (CSC‑FEP) as well as providing emotional support, experienced guidance, and problem‑solving assistance in a effort to strengthen the client's recovery.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Per referral from Case Managers, Therapists, Skills Trainers, and/or other Treatment Team members, Peer Support Specialist meets with clients served in the CSC program to provide experienced advice and guidance concerning CSC services and mental health services in general.
Under the supervision of CSC Program Manager, provides emotional support to CSC clients struggling to meet their unique and personal challenges.
Participates as a team member in conferences designed for the diagnosis and treatment of clients.
Assists parents in identifying barriers and problems as well as in problem solving.
On behalf of parents/caregivers, acts as liaison and advocate with appropriate agencies, physicians, schools, employers, etc.
Consults and meets with other KCF staff regularly.
Increases knowledge and skills through attendance of outside conferences and seminars whenever possible.
May provide transportation to clients or caregivers.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Excellent written communication and computer keyboarding for inputting clinical documentation
Excellent verbal communication with clients, staff, and community providers
Time management required to meet service goals
Local travel using Center vehicle
Stooping, bending, sitting, standing, keyboarding for prolonged periods, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
Ability to be CPR and PMAB certified
Valid driver's license and liability insurance required. 20% local travel.
Must be 18 years of age.
Must be able to pass a criminal history and registry checks.
Must be able to demonstrate current self‑directed recovery
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required
Must have lived experience with Severe Mental Illness required (Must be willing to appropriately share own recovery story with recipients.)
Experience in social services work preferred
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm
Salary: $13.00 hourly / $27,040.00 annually
