Shift Details 7:00am to 7:30pm Rotating Schedule

Work Location Crisis - Cumberland Recovery Response Center; Fayetteville, NC

Salary/Hourly Wage $18.00 - $18.00/hour

Summary of Job The Peer Support Specialist I provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. The role also assists in implementing/creating a recovery environment and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Guest Care & Advocacy:

Provides peer support to engage individuals in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.

Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.

Models hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.

Assists in developing natural supports and community living.

Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose).

Compliance & Risk Management:

Completes clinical documentation as required.

Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations, laws, and all Recovery Innovations policies and procedures as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Understands and adheres to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.

Cross Functional Collaboration:

Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals.

Additional Duties:

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education/Licenses:

Successful completion of Peer Employment Training, obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.

Skills:

Basic computer skills.

Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.

Effective communication skills.

Must be able to pass de‑escalation training, as defined by state requirements.

Driving Requirements:

If driving is required, must meet all requirements outlined in Recovery Innovations driving policy.

If not qualified to drive per driving policy, a Non‑Driver Attestation form must be signed.

Miscellaneous Requirements:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless a state regulation allows a different minimum.

Travel required based on business need.

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA guidelines and regulations) and professionalism.

Second‑Chance Employer: Must be able to pass a seven‑year background check, substance abuse testing (if applicable), designated fingerprinting clearance, education verification check, and a three‑year motor vehicle report if driving is required.

Direct Service Competency Checklist Must be completed as part of new hire onboarding.

Physical Demands May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers; frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity; eye‑hand‑foot coordination, use of corrected vision; color vision; use of auditory senses; may be required to lift up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility; may have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused. Warmline over‑the‑phone Peer Support Specialists work remotely and not in an office or behavioral health facility.

State Addendums

Arizona: Must be 21 years or older; must attend court hearings when listed as a witness on a petition.

California: Must obtain Certified Medi‑Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (CMPSS) within thirty (30) days of hire; art‑related experience required for Art Works program.

Louisiana: Must be 24 years or older.

North Carolina – Peer Navigator: Proof of valid and unrestricted Driver’s License; proof of up to date vaccination records (including childhood vaccinations); must clear authorized driving component and provide proof of personal auto insurance ($100,000 coverage).

Washington: Additional specified state registration for Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC).
