Job Title
The work is performed generally in the refuse division but will be used to assist other maintenance areas of the department as needed. Work is performed under the general supervision of a supervisor with guidance and direction from a lead worker or a more experienced employee. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Clean and prepare trash, recycle and yard waste carts for distribution to customers; clean and maintain additional equipment as needed. Maintain inventory of cleaned carts or equipment; inspect for damage or needed maintenance. Assist in the delivery of orders, placed by the general public, for refuse bags and/or additional supplies as needed. Assist in performing street and sidewalk clean-up of city-owned grounds and streets to include removal of dead animals, trash, and debris; comply with proper disposal guidelines. Assist in public works maintenance and projects. Minimum Training and Experience
Required Education and Experience: Completion of tenth grade --OR--
Any equivalent combination of training and experience Required Licenses or Certifications: Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license Other Necessary Qualifications
Knowledge of: Standard hand and power tools and equipment used in facilities and grounds maintenance activities Safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and heavy physical labor Skill in: Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships Ability to: Perform manual labor for extended periods of time and often under adverse climate conditions. Understand and follow oral and written instructions Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Operate hand and power tools Work independently and work well in team settings Work cooperatively with the general public We Offer
