Scorekeeper
The Recreation Leader
Scorekeeper plays a vital role in supporting the success of the City's adult and youth sports leagues by providing accurate and timely scorekeeping and ensuring a positive game-day experience for participants, officials, and spectators. This position serves as the front-line representative of the Recreation Department at sports venues and contributes to the smooth operation and integrity of athletic programs. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Accurately record and maintain game scores, fouls, timeouts, and player statistics during assigned sports league games (e.g., basketball, volleyball, flag football, softball). Operate electronic scoreboards and game clocks as needed. Communicate with officials and site supervisors to ensure clear understanding of game procedures and rules. Set up and break down scorekeeping stations and equipment before and after games. Provide friendly customer service and assistance to participants, coaches, and spectators. Ensure proper documentation and submission of game results at the end of each shift. Monitor field/court conditions and report unsafe situations or incidents to supervisors promptly. Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, punctuality, and teamwork. The ideal candidate for the Recreation Leader
Scorekeeper position will possess a strong interest in sports and recreation, along with a commitment to creating a positive and organized game-day experience for players and spectators. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following: Previous Experience in Scorekeeping
Especially in sports such as basketball, volleyball, flag football, or softball, with the ability to operate electronic scoreboards and timekeeping systems confidently. Knowledge of Sports Rules and Game Flow
Familiarity with official rules and league operations, including fouls, timeouts, player rotations, and scoring procedures. Strong Communication Skills
Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with officials, site supervisors, coaches, and participants. Reliability and Punctuality
A consistent record of showing up on time, being prepared, and fulfilling assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision. Positive and Professional Attitude
Enthusiastic, approachable, and customer-service oriented, representing the City in a respectful and inclusive manner. Flexibility and Teamwork
Willingness to adapt to last-minute changes, assist with setup/takedown, and collaborate with other part-time staff and Recreation team members. Candidates with a passion for recreation, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility are encouraged to apply.
