Police Communications Specialist
The University Police Department provides law enforcement, safety and security services to the campus 24/7. The Police Communications Specialist is responsible for operating a USF Police Department emergency communications center on a 24 hour basis. This position receives incoming calls for police and security services, dispatches officers as appropriate, and monitors police radio alarms. This position requires a current/Valid Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicfator Certificate or the ability to obtain one within six months of hiring. Responsibilities
Monitors and responds to 911 calls within a USF Police Department emergency communications center. Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all university buildings. Responsible for dispatching officers in an efficient manner to emergency and service calls. Monitors the field position and activities of Law Enforcement Officers, and non-sworn officers. Transmits requests for emergency services and retrieves various data and records. Checks driver's license records, vehicle registrations, stolen article files, warrants, criminal histories, and missing person lists. Coordinates non-university emergency response services with municipal, county, or state Police and Fire Departments. Provides information/assistance to members of the public who visit the University Police Department. Prepares various logs, reports and forms. Qualifications
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with six years of experience in office or administrative positions. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Proficiency in typing. Ability to obtain State certification on the NCIC/FCIC computer system. This position requires a current/Valid Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicfator Certificate or the ability to obtain one within six months of hiring. Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree. Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S. A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed: (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree; (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree; (c) Six years of direct experience for a master's degree; (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree. Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
