Job Summary

The Principal Solution Architect, D&T, ABAP works independently and possesses expert knowledge and capabilities. This role is responsible for the overall design, development and implementation of SAP applications. The role is viewed as an expert in solution design, development, performance tuning and troubleshooting. Working in a global environment, this role has a hands‑on approach capable of working across teams and time zones.

This role is to lead a technical team and also perform hands‑on work. The work this position will include interfacing and managing discussions with business stakeholders and process teams as well as handling design end‑to‑end technical solution across various systems including ECC, APO, BW, PI/PO and Non‑SAP Systems.

The position must have hands‑on experience in ABAP OO programming, Smartforms, SAPSCRIPT, Dialog Programming / Module‑Pool Programming, Workflow, ALV Reports, Interfaces, Enhancements, ALE/IDOC, EDI and PI/PO. Experience in Agile development methodology for projects and enhancements and SAP BW experience are a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Possesses deep understanding of overall vision, business needs and the solution architecture for SAP applications. Uses this expert knowledge to solve complex problems.
  • Leads a technical team and also works hands‑on to handle the business function requirements.
  • Designs end‑to‑end technical solutions across various systems including ECC, APO, BW, PI/PO and Non‑SAP Systems.
  • Works closely with the process team to understand the business requirements, review the functional specifications, develop technical specifications, build the application, unit test the application and support the process team during integration testing.
  • Designs and builds applications using knowledge of best practices.
  • Investigates and fixes production issues.
  • Coaches, supports and trains other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science required.
  • Bachelor's Degree Information System required.

Work Experience

  • 8‑10 years of relevant experience in the areas specified under Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in leading a technical team and providing end‑to‑end technical solutions.
  • Experience in technical design with the integration between ECC, APO, BW, PI/PO and Non‑SAP Systems.
  • Continuous and strong hands‑on experience in developing SAP applications.
  • Strong experience in gathering requirements and as a point of contact to global business / process teams.
  • ABAP OO skills is a must.
  • Must have extensive experience of ABAP development workbench, Dictionary, Workflows, SAPForms, BAPI's, Enhancement Framework, RFC’s, BADI’s, IDOC, ALE and ABAP OBJECTS, IDoc Queue handling, ABAP Proxy Framework, Change document framework, Conversions and Data load methods, SPAU, SPDD and post upgrade activities, Open‑SQL performance tuning.
  • Must have strong experience in EDI and PI/PO.
  • Strong experience working with ALE / IDoc configuration, enhancements, user exits, error handling.
  • Must have excellent analytical and logical problem solving.

Travel Requirements

10%: Up to 26 business days per year.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary – Exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Additional Requirements

  • Working with ABAP 7.4 > versions.
  • GTS experience.
  • HANA experience.
  • Knowledge of SAP business processes.
  • Experience / knowledge of Core Interface with debugging and enhancement of CIF interface with SAP APO.
  • WebDynpro framework with FPM and UIBBs.

Shift

  • Prefer 12pm – 9pm India time. Willingness to work outside of these hours as needed.
  • Occasional on-call work required.
  • Ability to work in a global and virtual environment and to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
