The Hoy Center at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay takes a holistic approach to skilled nursing care and aging. Our person‑centric living aligns the delivery of care with individual needs and preferences. The Hoy features home‑like, comfortable settings, which we call Lighthouses, each with a family room and e‑concept kitchen. These modern and open private rooms are comfortable, well‑appointed and tastefully designed. The Lighthouses include the Rose Island, Mission Point, Point Lookout, Cape Henry and Point Roberts.
Residents on each floor enjoy breathtaking views and refreshing ocean breezes on three spacious and striking outdoor terraces, we call Observation Decks. The Fletcher Prayer Room, which provides a dedicated, peaceful sanctuary for contemplation and prayer is also available to our residents.

Under the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor, implement the therapeutic recreational needs of the residents to include physical, social, emotional, vocational, spiritual and cognitive needs.
What You’ll Do In This Role
Implement individual recreational program for each resident as part of their overall plan of care.
Provide the documentation for programs & services.
Provide pertinent input to Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor regarding changes and modifications in the activity plan of care that will assist in overall program and service improvements.
Document participation or regression consistent with regulatory compliance.
Lead and direct activities for residents in our health care center, assisted living, and memory unit.
Operate the computer and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively; verbally and in writing to complete specific tasks related to the Therapeutic Recreation Department.
Other duties to assist program staff as may be directed from time to time by the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor.
Interact with residents in a manner compliant with their rights at all times.
At the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor, implement special projects to address the needs of residents.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Core Competencies
Willing to grow professionally in this position through continuing education and training.
Physical Requirements
Mobility required to climb or descend flights of stairs.
Demonstrate the ability to arrange and move furniture for various activities.
Must be physically able to assist residents in wheelchairs, or walkers.
Must be able to assist residents getting on and off the bus.
The Experience You’ll Bring Required
Working with older adults in a health care or long‑term care setting.
Ability to utilize Microsoft and Google Office software programs to assist in the delivery of services.
Preferred
Experience working with individuals with dementia is preferred.
Willing to lead programs with large groups.
COVID‑19 Vaccinated.
As of now, the 2025–2026 COVID‑19 vaccine formulation is being distributed to providers and pharmacies; however, it has not yet received official approval from the CDC. In Virginia, pharmacists may administer COVID‑19 vaccines under the Virginia Board of Pharmacy’s statewide protocols or with a direct order from a licensed medical provider. We encourage all new hires to consult with their healthcare provider regarding the most current vaccination recommendations. Please be aware that, depending on future CDC guidance or regulatory updates, we may require proof of the most recent COVID‑19 vaccination as part of our ongoing commitment to health and safety.
Compensation Range:
$16.40 - $19.28 (based on relevant experience)
