Non-Exempt Eligibility Requirements

Education: An accredited Associate's degree or sixty (60) semester credit hours toward an accredited Bachelor's degree or higher in Police Sciences, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business or Public Administration or related field, plus four (4) years of experience as a commissioned police officer with the El Paso Police Department in any rank below Police Sergeant. Licenses: Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) Intermediate Certificate (incumbents currently in this job are exempt but must maintain a Basic Peace Officer license). Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment. General Purpose: Under general supervision, perform first level supervisory commissioned law enforcement functions including those of an operational or administrative nature as required. Responsibilities

Plan, organize, direct and control day-to-day field or station activities of an assigned uniformed officer, detective or police support unit on a designated shift. Oversee, personally perform or assist with security patrol, traffic safety, emergency response, crime investigation, and related duties. Develop, arrange for and inform supervisors of individual tactical matters such as equipment use, personnel deployment, and operational approaches. Review case files and police reports of subordinate officers to ensure conformity with applicable laws and ordinances. Conduct interviews of victims, witnesses and suspects, and document incident scenes. Give testimony at trials and hearings, interpret department policies, and advise other units and authorities. Conduct periodic unit inspections and recommend improvements. Supervise assigned officers and civilian staff, conduct roll calls, schedule work, issue instructions, evaluate performance, provide training, enforce personnel rules, and resolve disputes. Act on behalf of superior officers when necessary, maintain availability for consultation, and assist with department budget analysis. Maintain equipment, supplies and facilities, and participate in in-service training. Application Process

Test Date: February 16, 2026 – Tech H2O Center. Applicants must submit copies of TCOLE Certificates or Transcripts at the time of application. The top 25 applicants who score 75 or higher will be invited to the assessment center; a score of 75 is required to be placed on the eligible list. Note: This recruitment is limited to Uniformed City employees working within the El Paso Police Department. Benefits
