Lead Residential Driver
The Lead Driver for the Greater Charlotte area operates refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes to pick up garbage, yard waste, or recycling. Oversees work of helpers and drivers. Performs pre-trip and post-trip truck checks, cleaning, and other related tasks as assigned. Work is performed under supervision and performance is reviewed through direct observation of routes and discussion of problems.
Essential Job Functions
Safely drives truck on pre-established route in accordance with Decision Driving principles within a prescribed time.
Collects and dumps garbage and refuse into refuse trucks while covering a designated route. Unloads refuse trucks at the landfill, transfer station, or similar facility.
Provides differing level of service through courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and customers. Exhibits a positive attitude toward company, customer, and municipal goals.
Ensures garbage and recyclables at residences are picked up and transferred properly; pickup may require using back door. Tags improper refuse containers and waste.
Answers questions for residents and directs them to contact Customer Service or appropriate government office for additional information.
Operates compaction and lift equipment on roll off, side, front, recycle, and rear-loading refuse trucks.
Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections as set forth by Waste Pro procedures and D.O.T. guidelines. Completes Safety Lane activity and DVIR daily in accordance with Waste Pro safety lane guidelines.
Maintains a clean truck, washes exterior weekly, and inspects the truck for mechanical and safety issues.
Performs a variety of manual duties in cleaning scattered refuse; moves and empties large trash bins using truck hydraulics.
Prepares, maintains, and submits required company and regulation-mandated reports and documents.
Assists other routes for completion, attends community events, or delivers bins and/or carts as needed.
Responsible for all persons working on vehicle during the designated route.
Must comply with all Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
May be required to work during emergency situations.
Greet drivers upon arrival to the yard, ensure pre/post trips are conducted, and discuss safety and equipment issues.
Share Decision Driving techniques and ensure employees adhere to Safety Guidelines.
Respond to dispatch calls or messages via Trac-Ez system and address customer service requests, complaints, and inquiries.
Inspect trucks, review repairs, and manage mechanical issues with shop manager.
Recommend re-routes to improve demand and volume for routes.
Other Job Responsibilities
Attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses as assigned.
Stay up-to-date on current technology appropriate to Waste Pro.
Perform any additional job duties assigned by the Supervisor.
