Your Petco Grooming Career As a Grooming Salon Leader at Petco, you will lead salon operations and team members, while delivering expert grooming services to our valued customers’ pets. Position Summary The Grooming Salon Leader is responsible for delivering a high level of customer satisfaction, fostering a positive work environment, driving salon performance and developing and coaching grooming staff. In addition, the Leader performs expert‑level grooming services—including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning and gland cleaning—while ensuring the safety, comfort and well‑being of the pets in our care.

Responsibilities
Oversee day‑to‑day salon operations, ensuring smooth workflows, optimal scheduling, inventory management and staffing plans.
Recruit, hire, train and supervise entry‑level trainees up to professional grooming staff, providing coaching, feedback, training and performance evaluations.
Create and manage efficient grooming schedules that maximize salon capacity and accommodate customer demand.
Monitor salon performance metrics such as revenue, customer satisfaction and partner productivity; analyze data to identify improvement areas and develop action plans.
Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives, implementing growth strategies.
Interact professionally and effectively with pet parents, providing exceptional customer service, grooming recommendations and timely resolutions to inquiries.
Stay abreast of grooming industry trends and best practices to enhance your skills and those of your team.
Perform professional grooming services—including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning and gland cleaning—adhering to breed standards and company policies and procedures.
Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
Evaluate individual pet needs, considering coat type, skin conditions and temperament.
Educate and provide custom recommendations to pet parents on grooming maintenance, home‑care practices and products.
Ensure the well‑being and safety of every animal in the salon, monitoring for discomfort, illness or injury and reporting concerns promptly.
Perform quality checks and maintain a clean and safe grooming area; disinfect and sanitize tools, perform daily and weekly cleaning duties and other maintenance tasks as assigned.
Apply Petco’s grooming policies, standards and guidelines to ensure safety, quality and consistency, holding team members accountable for compliance.
Qualifications
Two or more years’ experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
Strong leadership skills with a desire to lead, train and develop people; 1–2 years of salon management or related field experience preferred.
High‑school diploma or GED (preferred, not required).
Very strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and the grooming team.
Expert knowledge of various dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behaviors.
Expert‑level proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques and grooming standards.
Genuine passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; ability to handle moderately complex situations with guidance from a Solutions Manager or Store General Manager when necessary.
Results‑driven with a focused commitment to salon productivity, performance, growth and improvement.
Strong attention to detail; ensure grooming services are executed accurately and to the highest standards.
Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
Availability to work full time (minimum 35 hours per week), including weekends, evenings and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
Work Environment The majority of job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds) and standing for long periods. It may require exposure to heights using a two‑step ladder or other support tools for cleaning and maintenance duties. The work environment can be noisy and wet, with direct contact with pet parents and other salon partners.
