ITG Communications is hiring an Underground Locator in Jacksonville, FL.
Job Description The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role uses locating equipment, maps, and work orders to accurately identify the presence and path of underground facilities. The locator plays a critical role in preventing utility damages, maintaining public safety, and supporting field operations by delivering precise and timely locate services.
Responsibilities
Perform underground facility locates in accordance with company, state, and utility standards.
Read and interpret maps, prints, GIS records, and work orders to determine utility paths.
Use locating tools and equipment (e.g., transmitters, receivers, toners) to accurately mark underground utilities.
Document all locate activities, including sketches, notes, photos, GPS data, and completed work orders.
Respond to routine tickets, emergency locate requests, high-priority projects, and re-marks.
Communicate clearly with contractors, homeowners, utility providers, and internal teams.
Maintain equipment, tools, and company vehicles in proper working conditions.
Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA, 811 guidelines, and state One-Call regulations.
Immediately report mismarks, damage risks, safety hazards, or potential service issues.
Support team members and field operations as needed.
Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned.

Locate accuracy and quality audit scores
Number of preventable utility damages (Zero Damage goal)
Ticket completion rate and timeliness
Safety compliance and incident-free performance
Documentation accuracy (photos, notes, mapping verification)
Customer and contractor satisfaction
Education
High school diploma or GED required
Experience
Experience in utility locating, construction, telecom, gas, water, or electrical preferred
Knowledge of One-Call systems, 811 regulations, and underground utility infrastructure a plus
Valid driver’s license required
Exposure
Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Exposure to construction sites, traffic, and moving equipment
Work on private and public rights-of-way
Occasional emergency or after-hours locate requests
Interaction with contractors, homeowners, utility companies, and project managers
Interaction with utility representatives, field supervisors, and internal crews
