Recreation Leader 1 – Wayne County, Michigan
The Recreation Leader 1 is responsible for recreational activities at the Juvenile Detention Facility. The role promotes and supervises sports, organized games, special projects, events, crafts, and entertainment, while ensuring the safety and interests of the youth.
Responsibilities
Schedule, supervise, and implement recreational programs for youth residents.
Manage recreational programs and oversee a variety of special projects and events, crafts, and entertainment.
Ensure youth safety during sports and group activities.
Conduct recreational activities in accordance with Michigan state licensing regulations.
Supervise and provide custodial care for a group of youths participating in the Juvenile Detention Facility (JDF) program.
Oversee the behavior management system and merit distribution.
Participate in the care and well‑being of residents.
Supervise and instruct youth in activities.
Cooperate with the Family Independence Agency and internal investigations regarding activities within the JDF.
Perform other duties related to the job description as assigned.
Educational Experience
Associate’s degree OR equivalent credit hours in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field.
Experience Requirements
One (1) year post‑degree professional experience organizing and monitoring recreational activities of youth 18 years of age and under.
Special Conditions
Applicants must receive clearance to work in a child‑caring institution via the Children’s Protective Services History Review and Central Registry review. Candidates who have lived outside of Michigan must provide clearance from that State.
