Responsibilities A hydro plant mechanic is a journeyman mechanic who repairs, maintains and upgrades all types of mechanical and associated equipment and facilities in a hydro generating station.

Requirements

Plan and direct maintenance activities for hydro plant outages

Operate equipment

Arc and gas weld power plant components and perform specialized work as a welder

Repair turbines and bearing systems

Add or replace packing as required

Repair and maintain governor and lubrication oil systems

Repair and upgrade cooling water systems

Repair hydro conveyance systems

Perform machining, equipment alignment and precision work

Repair and upgrade turbine and generator auxiliary systems

Perform repair and maintenance of hydro plant facilities including repair and construction of roads, trails, bridges, mixing and pouring of concrete, etc.
