Activities Coordinator

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is located in Staunton, Virginia, at the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. We provide trauma‑informed psychiatric residential treatment to adolescent males with complex emotional, behavioral, and educational difficulties. Our programs serve youth with psychiatric disorders, co‑occurring intellectual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders. The 42‑bed facility prepares these young men for return to home, less restrictive environments, or independent living, with a focus on constructive change, personal growth, responsibility, problem‑solving skills, and positive relationships.

Must commit to a 3‑week new employee orientation (Mon‑Fri, 9:30 am–5:30 pm)
Job Description & Essential Duties
Work with the Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) to ensure a quality, comprehensive Resident Activity and Recreation Program.
Assist with creation, implementation, coordination, and dissemination of all resident activities and related communications.
Plan and coordinate resident outings, events, and activities, including holidays, school integration days, and non‑school days.
Manage activity calendar, notifications, and special events to ensure effective communication.
Support staff by introducing and educating them to activities.
Demonstrate, teach, and instruct activities to residents.
Inventory activity and recreation equipment, maintain items in working condition, and initiate replacements as needed.
Provide resident‑ratio coverage in emergencies or high‑need situations.
Supervise and care for intellectually disabled adolescents in a residential setting.
Offer positive, appropriate interventions, limit‑setting, response, problem‑solving, and guidance as needed.
Document accurately and legibly.
Apply knowledge of resident treatment plans and interventions.
Maintain professional boundaries with residents and staff.
Qualifications Career Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or related field.
Two (2) years experience in a psychiatric setting with adolescents and children.
Minimum age 21.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Working knowledge of activity scheduling and/or recreational therapy programming.
Successful candidate must be able to:
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Use full range of body motion (sit, bend, kneel, or stand) for more than an hour if needed.
Behave, appear, and interact appropriately, supporting facility philosophy and goals.
Complete and pass Handle With Care & Verbal De‑escalation Crisis Intervention Training.
Perform facility‑approved First Aid and CPR techniques (training provided during orientation).
