General Description The Cable Assembly Drafter is responsible for preparing layouts, assembly and detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies; working closely with component engineering.

Essential Functions

Prepares layouts, assembly, and detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies based on inputs from Sales/customer Update drawings per customer's request (As-built and Engineering change notices)

Work with component engineering to obtain models for cable assembly components

Analyzes various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate constructions

Verify that cable assembly parts are setup in company ERP system

Route and ensure drawings are signed off and submitted for final release

Ensure cable assembly cycle times are met or improved

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Soft skills: AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Visio

Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment

Liaison with engineering personnel

Ability to move from design concept to finished design, including layouts and tolerance valuations and detail drawings

Ability to learn and execute established procedures and programs

Complete all applicable reports and required project documentation

Able to follow established procedures to complete required cable assembly designs

Required Education And Experience One to two years’ college or trade school education in engineering drawing/CAD design. Minimum five (5) years’ on-the-job experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for formal training.

Citizenship Requirement U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements.

Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet. Cubicles and workshops are in an open environment set-up.

Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, type or feel; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color and peripheral vision with depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
