Position Summary The Nuclear Medicine Technologist uses radiopharmaceuticals, gamma cameras, PET scanners, and computers safely, effectively, and cost‑consciously to produce physiologic functional images and quantitative data, as well as cross‑sectional images that assist in diagnosing and treating patient disease.

Responsibilities

Use gamma cameras, PET scanners, and uptake probes to produce physiological functional images and quantitative data to assist in diagnosis and treatment.

Select and operate a wide variety of imaging equipment efficiently and coordinate examinations to minimize patient time in hospital.

Maintain equipment in working order, perform calibrations, and report malfunctions to leadership promptly.

Perform diagnostic examinations with proper patient identification and positioning; complete daily assignments efficiently and organize work effectively.

Explain procedures to patients, address patient comfort, and observe nursing needs during procedures.

Inject radiopharmaceuticals intravenously or administer orally for Nuclear Medicine examinations.

Work assigned shifts and be available for on‑call clinical services during emergencies, evenings, weekends, and holidays; make independent patient‑care decisions and provide study results.

Obtain and review examination consultation requests, patient histories, prior reports, and image records; assist with rescheduling on‑call or emergency patients.

Interact with physicians and other technical staff to provide quality, safe, and efficient patient care.

Maintain appearance of all rotational areas and ensure supplies are stocked; dispose of trash and linen properly.

Provide instruction to technology students, medical students, and residents; coordinate with ancillary personnel.

Assist with division paperwork as assigned and complete mandatory educational assignments.

Ensure accuracy of patient demographic information, report distribution, image archiving, retrieval, and network data transfer.

Maintain knowledge of contrast reactions and patient needs.

Perform routine CT procedures at a high standard, with increasing knowledge.

Set equipment parameters, provide patient assessment, education, and venous access for contrast material.

Perform professional and technical competencies required of the unit or department.

Other duties may be assigned as required.

Required Education & Experience

Graduate of an AMA‑approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Training Program.

Preferred Education & Experience

High school graduate.

Bachelor’s degree related to technical or managerial performance requirements.

At least one year of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Required Licensure & Certification

Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) – Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB); new graduates must become registered within 3 months.

Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (N) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); new graduates must become registered within 3 months.

Computed Tomography (CT) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 1 year.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.

Licensed Radiologic Technologist (LRT) – Kansas Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA) within 90 days.

Preferred Licensure & Certification

Positron Emission Technology Certification (PET) – Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

Nuclear Cardiology Technologist (NCT) – Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

Knowledge Requirements

Documented PET and CT experience.
