Job Description

TITLE: Marine Mechanic

Reports to: Store Manager, COO Non-Exempt

Pay Range - $25 - 35 an hour

Monday - Friday and some Weekends in Season

Paid Vacation and Personal time, Benefits and Retirement Plans including 401k Match

SUMMARY : Provides exceptional service and exceeds customer expectations while providing a safe work area. The ability to expertly diagnose and fix problems with marine electrical and mechanical systems. Inspect and service engine equipment, troubleshoot, and make minor repairs. Can also address problems with boat steering and hydraulic systems. Ability to coach and instruct team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Estimate work: examine boats and prepare itemized quotes listing costs of labor and materials.

Obtain customer approval on work orders, providing clear and precise instructions for the staff.

Work with customers: determine needs, provide job progress, etc

Quality control work: Routinely inspect quality of work performed, prior to completion/delivery.

Testing the performance of marine engines and electrical systems.

Carrying out services and minor repairs on the outboard and inboard engines.

Conducting plumbing and intake repairs.

Troubleshooting engine and electrical problems.

Replacing broken or worn-out engine parts.

Repair faulty hydraulic and steering systems.

Conducting electrical AC system maintenance.

Completing service records and repair documents.

Cleaning, repairing and maintaining all parts of the boat or vessel.

Reading through repair and installation orders to determine the material, time, and equipment required.

Testing engines, propellers, steering, and navigational equipment.

Mixing and applying paint, wax, and gel coats.

Liaising and consulting with the buyers and management and other relevant professionals and vendors.

Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

All other duties as required by management.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Relevant Mercury certificates are required. Proven work experience as a marine mechanic.

Knowledge of marine engines and electrical auxiliary systems. Practical experience with tools and equipment used in marine maintenance.

Ability to read and understand technical manuals.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have above-average knowledge of: Microsoft Suite, CRM systems, Point of Service Systems; Internet Software.
