The Louisiana Legislative Auditor (LLA) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Legal Secretary to provide advanced administrative and legal support to Senior Attorneys within the Legal Section. This position plays an essential role in supporting legal accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance while contributing to LLA’s mission of promoting accountability and transparency in Louisiana government. The Legal Secretary works independently, exercises sound judgment and discretion, and handles sensitive information in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
Responsibilities
Provide confidential administrative and legal support to Senior Attorneys and Legal Section staff
Prepare, format, proofread, and process legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, contracts, and legal opinion letters
Manage calendars, appointments, mail, and legal correspondence
Maintain electronic files, document management systems, and records in compliance with retention requirements
Serve as a primary point of contact for Ethics responses and assist with public records requests
Provide clerical support for Equitable Sharing Agreement and Certification (ESAC) auditsAssist with trial preparation, including organizing case files, preparing exhibits, and logging pleadings
Support expense reports, travel authorizations, and CLE registrations while maintaining strict confidentiality
Provide cross-functional administrative support and back-up coverage for executive assistants as needed
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Three years of progressively responsible secretarial or administrative experience (legal office or legal department experience preferred)
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience handling confidential and sensitive informationFamiliarity with legal terminology, legal document formats, and proofreading standards
Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
