Lead-Truck Shop Mechanic

role at Wayne‑Sanderson Farms.

Primary Function Primarily responsible for preventive maintenance and service of equipment; minor repairs and assist the mechanics. Passed Level 2 NOCTI Vehicle Mechanic test. Must always use and maintain personal protective equipment, and work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Performs preventive maintenance on all company tractors and trailers (Feed Mill & Live Haul), light pick‑up trucks, cars, and loaders, including servicing all vehicles, changing oil and filters (oil, fuel, air, water, power steering, transmission, hydraulic, etc.); greasing tractors, trailers, loaders, pick‑up trucks, cars.

Ensuring proper fluid levels, proper functioning of all lights and brakes.

Helps other mechanics as needed; picks up parts; replaces mud flaps.

Complete mandatory paperwork.

Sweeps truck shop and keeps work area clean.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Ability to work unsupervised and self‑motivate.

Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours.

Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.

Ability to work independently and in groups.

Basic mechanical knowledge.

Organized worker (i.e., sweep, clean shop, etc.).

Must have own tools.

Preferred Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Hatchery or relative poultry industry experience.

Basic math functions and skills.

Safety Requirements

Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.

Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Physical Requirements

Stand up to 8 hours.

Lift up to 60 lbs.

Frequent exposure to heat (incubators are 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit).

Exposure to wet and dusty environment.

Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling.

Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.).

Work around raw, live animal odors.
