Under the direction of the Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor, perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater, water, storm water and compressed natural gas (CNG) facilities.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment related to the City's wastewater, storm water, water and CNG facilities, including motor, pumps, blowers, valves, drives, compressors, chillers and collectors.
Respond to emergency power outages and initiate use of auxiliary powers as necessary; maintain auxiliary engine in ready condition.
Rebuild and overhaul pumps, blowers, motors, collectors, compressors, chillers and drive systems with a high degree of independence of action.
Provide input on design blueprints and recommend changes.
Conduct daily or periodic inspection of pump operations; make adjustments as necessary.
Perform preventative maintenance on pump engines and other equipment including checking oil, greases, filters and related equipment.
Record readings from meters and other monitoring gauges; maintain records and reports on pumping operation.
Collect CNG gas samples for lab analysis.
Perform a variety of building cleaning, groundskeeping, painting and semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.
Inspect the work of outside contractors.
Assist contractors to assure work is completed in a professional and timely manner.
Read and interpret wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, manuals and specifications.
Assure proper safety precautions and safe work methods are followed.
Other Duties: Respond to emergency calls out; participate in an on-call rotation.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles, methods, materials and tools employed in the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, compressors and related equipment.

Electrical testing procedures used for single and three phase wiring and related control systems.
Procedures, equipment and materials used in the operation and maintenance of electric motors, relays, switches, diesel and natural gas engines, pumps, compressors and other equipment.

Standard practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the mechanical, plumbing and electrical repair of major and minor mechanical equipment systems.
Compressed natural gas methods and techniques to maintain the system including working pressures and temperature.
ABILITY TO:
Perform a variety of skilled and complex repair and maintenance tasks on a wide variety of motors, pumps, blowers, drives, compressors and related equipment.
Perform electrical troubleshooting on single and three phase wired equipment, testing 120, 240 and 480 voltage.
Install, maintain and repair electrical systems as necessary.
Work with chemicals.
Install, maintain and repair chemical feel systems.
Read and understand basic blueprints and equipment wiring schematics.
Follow oral and written instruction in an independent manner.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with others.
Operate motorized equipment such as loaders, forklifts and high-pressure sewer cleaners.
Operate power tools including jackhammers, cut-off saws, submersible pumps, concrete saws, auto cranes and welding equipment.
Operate welding and cutting equipment, drill presses, lathes and the like.
Drive light and heavy trucks and tow trailers.
Perform basic math functions.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Report to work every scheduled workday.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized training in the areas of mechanical maintenance and repair and three years' experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of engines, pumps and related equipment including one year experience in the maintenance of electrical circuitry.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Class C Driver's License.
